Mozilla Event @ eLiberatica

I am pleased to announce that, by the end of this week, Mozilla Project will be present at eLiberatica as well. Working together with the rest of Mozilla.ro members and people from Mozilla Corporation, finally we have a special program for eLiberatica participants. The Mozilla event is meant to introduce participants into Mozilla Ecosystem, to make them better understand what open web is and what is the importance of Mozilla as a platform. Below, I would like to describe every session of our schedule, who is speaking and why is worth participating in.

We start with a 45 minutes (9.00 – 9.45) booth session where you will be able to visit us at our booth, meet us and get your Mozilla goodie (yes, we have goodies for all of you who are coming to say us “Hello, I am using Firefox or Thunderbird” ;) ). In this session you can find out more about Mozilla Project, the history of Mozilla or Mozilla Manifesto. Mozilla Crew will be ready to explain you what the open web is, how Mozilla is supporting it, which is Mozilla’s mission etc. Maybe you have already read the Mozilla Manifesto, but let us know which is your opinion about it. Do you agree with it or no, it is understandable for you or not?

During the first coffee break of the day, we have prepared a special help session for those who may have problems with Firefox or Thunderbird, and those who would like to add new functionalities to their browser. Also, we are glad to introduce you to the new Thunderbird 3 and Firefox 3.5. If you would like to start using Thunderbird as your default mail client, we would be happy to help you as well!

In the first day of the conference, Zbigniew Braniecki (Community Ninja at Mozilla Corporation and Board of Directors at Mozilla Europe) will give an interesting talk about Mozilla Pragmatics and Poetry.

By the end of the day, I recommend to students and professors presents at eLiberatica to stay with us, because William Quiviger (Community Marketing Manager in Europe, Mozilla Corporation) will talk about a new project Mozilla is preparing in Europe. This project is meant to help Universities getting involved into Mozilla Marketing and Evangelism.

The second day we will start with an interesting 45 minutes session about Mozilla Labs and Open Innovation. From 9.00 to 9.10 you will be introduced to Mozilla Labs and starting with 9.10, Pascal Finette (Open Innovation Kahuna at Mozilla Corporation) will have a live video conference to explain you what Open Innovation and Mozilla means. Then, by the end of the session, we will be glad to show you some interesting projects of Labs. Ecaterina Valică (Innovation best in class at Spring Design Challenge) will join us as well, so you can ask her about her experience within the Challenge.

During the Coffee Break, two Open Source Developers, Anca Paula Luca and Jerome Velociter, will be at our stand, pointing out “How to hack Mozilla”? Anca Paula Luca is a Romanian Web Developer, who works with Mozilla Technologies, by developing Firefox and Ubiquity extensions (she will be happy to share with you her experience on how building an extension). Jerome Velociter, an open source developer (working for XWiki) will explain you his experience on integrating Bespin with XWiki. Don’t hesitate to have your coffee with them and with the rest of the Mozilla Crew!

Finally, I will make a presentation (plenary presentation) about how to Build and Develop local communities and why? What’s the importance of collaboration between the local community and the “mother project”? I will come with real examples from my experience at Mozilla.ro and Mozilla.cat communities and how these communities are helping for a healthy digital society development. I’m looking forward to see you at AN010 amphiteathre :) .

During the conference, do not hesitate to “ping” Alexandru Szasz (if you would like to hep us with the translation of Mozilla Products) or Toni Hermoso Pulido (if you would like to know more about the importance of localization or translation tips and tricks). If you heard about Ubiquity and have enough linguistic knowledge of Romanian, please contact with them in order to prepare a future Romanian translation for Ubiquity.

Now I’m paking and this night I’m leaving Barcelona, hoping to have a great event. I am eager to re(meet) my friends from Romania, and my mates from Mozilla.ro and Mozilla Europe. See you in Bucharest!
