Last week one of the most important Free/Libre Open Source Software conferences, eLiberatica took place in Romania. Over 350 participants, more than 30 speakers and different booth events made this edition of eLiberatica a success. I think that eLiberatica reached its main aim: helping to develop a healthy FLOSS movement in Romania. This year, eLiberatica brought together students, FLOSS communities and Open Source projects and created a perfect environment for people to share ideas, to get involved, to learn which are the benefits of being a community member, etc. I was amazed how many people came to Mozilla booth in order to ask about new Firefox 3.5, how they could help in localization, and how they could start to develop Firefox addons.
Mozilla Event finally was a succes, despite some “crashes” with the internet connection which not allowed us to follow the schedule. We managed to get more close of Romanian community, to spread Mozilla Mission, to tell people about what’s new in Firefox 3.5 and Thunderbird 3, to meet enthisiat developers and to plan future events in Romania.
Gandalf’s presentation about What Mozilla was really great and interesting, he including in it three different topics: Mozilla mission, Mozilla circles of community and one Mozilla. For those who lost his presentation, you can find the slides here. Also, William Quiviger spoke about how students could help Mozilla by spreading the word about Mozilla Technology and Mozilla Mission in their universities and presented about internship opportunities at Mozilla.
Following I’m adding my presentation about Local Communities and their role:
